New Year´s Eve en Scotland

New Year´s Eve in Scotland is called Hogmanay. At 12 o´clock on the 31st of December, Scottish people go " first-footing". First- footing means visiting friends and relatives. A tall, dark man goes into the house first. He is the " first- footer" . The "first- footer" has a piece of coal, some bread and some salt. They mean good luck for the new year!. They make haggis ( Traditional Scottish food made of meat) They eat the haggis with potatoes and turnip. Then they listen to music, dance and enjoy the fireworks. A musician plays bagpipes and they all dance. Men wear kilts on special days like this ( it isn`t a skirt).

Fin de Año en Escocia se conoce como Hogmanay. A las doce del 31 de diciembre, los escoceses van a su primera " caminata", que significa visitar a amigos y familiares. Cuando llaman a la puerta, los que están dentro dicen: Un hombre alto y oscuro está en la puerta, entonces entra entregando carbón, sal y pan, para dar suerte durante todo el año a la familia que visita. Hacen comida tradicional,escuchan música, bailan y disfrutan de los fuegos artificiales. Los músicos tocan las gaitas y violines y muchos hombres se ponen sus mejores galas, una especie de faldita conocida como Kilt.
